Inglewood Mayor’s High-Paid Aide Escorted From City Hall

An assistant to Inglewood Mayor James Butts Jr., whose high salary came under scrutiny last year, has hired a high-profile attorney to represent her after she was physically removed from City Hall.

It’s not clear why Melanie McDade-Dickens was escorted off the property. The incident occurred in July, as first reported by the blog 2urbangirls.

“I am very confident the documents will assist in the telling of the story of McDade’s relationship with the city of Inglewood,” her lawyer, Carl Douglas, told the Daily Breeze. “When you hear the whole story, there is no doubt in my mind that you will understand completely why she felt the need to hire lawyers.”

Douglas worked on O.J. Simpson’s defense team.

McDade-Dickens is still technically employed by the city, even though her name and contact information have been removed from Inglewood’s website.

Mira Hashmall, an attorney representing Inglewood, told the Daily Breeze in an email that “the city is legally prohibited from discussing personnel matters.”
