Get ready for wide-eyed drivers and out-of-town license plates because Super Bowl LVI is almost here. It’s the Rams vs. the Cincinnati Bengals at Inglewood’s SoFi stadium on Sunday, Feb. 13. Among other things, it’s going to make L.A. traffic a lot worse.
If you plan on driving through the Inglewood area, be sure to check out this list of road closures and traffic advisories provided by the city. Going to the game? Lucky you. Here’s what you need to know beforehand.
Inglewood residents who wish to stay updated on public safety information related to the Super Bowl can text “INGSB” to 888-777 and register for emergency alerts by visiting https://member.everbridge.net/311578402488335/login.
This is a big moment for the city, but not everyone considers it a good thing. The new SoFi stadium is a polarizing issue. As Erin Aubry Kaplan writes in an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times, “the fact that SoFi got fast-tracked with little oversight and only token approval by residents is never mentioned. In this profoundly undemocratic age, the lack of community input, which backfired spectacularly in 2004, has shrunk to a minor detail.”
The impacts were enormous. SoFi and other development projects helped push the median home price in Inglewood from $402,271 in 2016 to $739,254 in 2021 – an increase of 84%. Rick Foard, with the Lennox-Inglewood Tenants Union, calls it a “crisis” for renters in the city.
With that said, the economic benefits will also be enormous. Sunday’s game is expected to generate about $500 million for the L.A. region.
Let’s go, Rams!
