If you’re anything like us, you have a love for all things local government. In CityNews’ effort to satiate even the most ravenous of municipal government geeks, we are proud to introduce CityNews U in conjunction with the release of our new site, and in celebration of CityNews' 7th anniversary just around the corner.

What is CityNews U?

Over the years, we’ve stumbled across some fantastic resources that changed the way we thought about the many complicated aspects of local government. We couldn't let these great books just sit on some shelf somewhere in an Amazon warehouse, we knew it was time to share all of this great information with our wonderful readers.

With that in mind, our staff pooled our collective knowledge and came up with a definitive list of our favorites.

What Does CityNews U Have to Offer?

Are you a city news newbie? Or maybe you are interested in the historical aspect of California government? Whatever your interest, we’ve got you covered. The topics presented range from broad basics to finance to California history, and tons more in between.

We even have several publications focused on the future of California for any of those curious about where our fair state may end up down the line.

Not only that, but CityNews U has several of our favorite California-centric fiction and essays for anyone looking to get a creative take on our state’s history.

But wait, there’s even more! Yep. We’re not quite done yet. In addition to these great sources, we also have completely free, fascinating courses that can be taken online. These classes are taught by some of the nation’s leading professors about a wide range of subjects. Oh, and did we mention they were free?

Help Us Out!

Even though we’ve exhausted our knowledge of CityNews resources, we know CityNews U is currently only scratching the surface. Do you have a favorite city of state government-centric resource? Are there any glaring omissions on our list? Let us know ASAP! We need your help to make CityNews U the definitive source for anyone looking to learn more about the local governments we love so much.

So what are you waiting for? Click here and get lost in all that California’s local governments have to offer. And be sure to give us a holler if you have any other sources to add.
