Finding a great place to live in today's economy is no easy feat for anyone, not to mention for parents who in addition to tight housing options and rising mortgage rates have extra factors to figure out. We all want the best schools for our children, safe neighborhoods, quality health care and a nice array of entertainment options to make memories. And that's the short list.

Fortunately, Irvine is a great place to bring up kids. According to StorageCafe’s research, Irvine ranks as the 11th-best place to raise a family in 2023* among the 100 cities analyzed nationwide.

This is why Irvine stands out:

  • The quality of local education also recommends Irvine to families with children. In fact, close to 68% of adults aged +25 are B.A. holders, the 3rd-highest share of college graduates among the adult population in our ranking.
  • The median household income for Irvine families is one the highest in the country, inching close to $160K/year. In fact, 32% of households in Irvine have children, all while staying safe, as the city ranks high for safety.
  • Furthermore, the opportunities for staying active are also immense and cater to a variety of tastes, including basketball with approximately 17 basketball hoops/10K people (highest number among the cities analyzed), 7 tennis courts/20K people, 4 playgrounds/10K residents and 2 volleyball nets/20K locals.
  • In terms of healthcare, Irvine comes third for the number of health centers in relation to population, with about 5 healthcare establishments/1,000 people.

To help house-hunting parents, StorageCafe’s researchers scoured the nation for the cities that are best equipped to cater to the family lifestyle. To create the ranking, they used proprietary and public data to compare the 100 most populous cities based on 29 criteria, including access to good public schools, economic prosperity and the cost of housing, commute times, local cultural scene, recreation opportunities and more.

You can find additional information about StorageCafe’s findings and the complete ranking here.
