The Dana Point City Council has unanimously appointed Assistant City Manager and Director of Economic Development Kelly Reenders as the next City Manager. Reenders has worked for the city since 2016 and brings more than 23 years of experience in local government.
"Kelly has demonstrated expertise across key sectors that include strategic planning, budgeting, economic development, housing and homeless outreach, community services, and all other areas within the city," Mayor Matthew Pagano told Patch. "Beyond her professional competencies, Kelly is a wonderful human and a great ambassador for the City of Dana Point, as well as making sure we continue to be fiscally conservative."
Reenders said she was “honored by the City Council's confidence and proud to work alongside our talented staff to sustain the strong leadership, partnerships, and collaborative spirit that define Dana Point.”
From 2016 to 2020, Reenders was Dana Point’s Economic Development Manager. She had previously worked for the City of Santa Ana, San Bernardino County, and the City of Ontario.
Reenders will succeed Mike Killebrew, who announced his retirement in September, effective December 30. Killebrew joined the city in 2007 and has served as City Manager since 2020.
Reenders’ appointment will take effect December 31.
