We just can't resist a good 'town elects dog as mayor' story here at City News, especially when it's the fourth time around.
Today's news in four-legged public officials comes out of the small town of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky. A few months ago, voters there elected a pit bull named Brynneth Pawltro as mayor. It's the fourth time a dog has been elected to the office.
"It started in the late 1990s as a fundraiser," said Bobbi Kayser with the town’s historical society. "We charge you a dollar for your vote, You vote as often as you want."
One day the town's cat community hopes to get some official representation. A cat did run for Rabbit Hash Mayor this time around, as did a chicken, a donkey and a child. But they were no match for the charismatic Pawltro.
Pawltro's list of duties is short. Hash Rabbit is so small it doesn't even really need a mayor.
Enjoy playing frisbee, sweetie!
