An extensive search for King City’s next city manager has finally concluded with the city council’s unanimous decision to appoint former Arroyo Grande City Manager Steven Adams. Adams’ contract is expected to be approved Monday, with his official start date slated for Nov. 9.
Adams’ selection followed a statewide search conducted by the recruitment firm Avery and Associates. As part of the background investigation, the council thoroughly examined a 2014 incident involving an alleged relationship with a city employee that played a pivotal role in Adams’ departure from Arroyo Grande. The council concluded that no inappropriate relationship existed and that Adams had not violated any policies.
"I am honored to be selected to serve such a special community,” Adams said. “I know there are significant challenges to be addressed, but I look forward to working together with such a dedicated City Council, hard working staff, and proud community to make the quality of life the best possible for everyone that lives, works and visits here."
In addition to his work for Arroyo Grande, Adams’ 32 years of public sector experience includes executive positions with the cities of Glendale and Westlake Village. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
