The City of Los Angeles is poised to implement cost-cutting measures that will eclipse anything we saw during the 2008 recession.
In a grim State of the City address Sunday, Mayor Eric Garcetti said Los Angeles is “under attack” from coronavirus and that “from a fiscal perspective, this is the worst it’s ever been.” As a result, thousands of civilian city employees will need to take off 26 days without pay, representing a 10% reduction in compensation. And that is likely just the beginning.
Furloughs will not impact police officers, firefighters or Department of Water and Power employees.
