FBI agents raided the home of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Brian K. Williams on Wednesday in connection with a bomb threat made against City Hall earlier this year.
The Los Angeles Police Department has accused Williams of making the threat.
“Our initial investigation revealed that the source of the threat was likely from Brian Williams, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety. Due to the Department’s working relationship with Mr. Williams, the investigation was referred to the FBI. The FBI remains the investigating agency,” LAPD said in a statement.
Colleagues have expressed shock at the arrest. Williams was hired two years ago as a deputy mayor for public safety by Mayor Karen Bass. He had previously served on the county’s Sheriff’s Civilian Oversight Commission and was a deputy mayor for Kenneth Hahn. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
