Black Lives Matter protestors have been camped outside Los Angeles City Hall since Tuesday after a police panel found the officer-involved shooting of a black woman justified.
Redel Jones, 30, was shot and killed by a Los Angeles police officer after an alleged armed robbery in 2015. Police said they fired when she refused to drop the knife that she was holding, but her family has questioned the official account.
Tuesday’s controversial decision comes on the heels of two high-profile officer-involved shootings of young black men in Louisiana and Minnesota within the past few weeks. Those deaths sparked nationwide protests, including the one in Dallas, Texas where a sniper shot eleven officers, five of them fatally.
The protestors outside City Hall are demanding to meet with Mayor Eric Garcetti and say they will not leave until they are able to do so.
