The Los Angeles City Council will hold a meeting Tuesday to determine whether ex-fire chief Kristin Crowley should get her job back.
Crowley was fired earlier this month by Mayor Karen Bass amid fallout from the January wildfires. The decision was highly controversial, drawing a rebuke from Councilmember Monica Rodriguez and the firefighters union.
On Thursday, Crowley said she will appeal the decision. She would need support from 10 out of the 15 members of the City Council.
There are at least two hard “no” votes. Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson has been a fierce defender of Bass. Bob Blumenfield has also said Bass should make the final decision about who runs LAFD.
Councilmember Traci Park has been a Crowley defender, but would not commit to voting for reinstatement until she’s seen all the evidence.
Update: Crowley has lost her appeal. Only two members of the City Council — Monica Rodriguez and Traci Park — voted in favor of her reinstatement on Tuesday. Read more here.
