The move toward remote video conferencing in the wake of the coronavirus has resulted in a some hilarious snafus. But a recent Laguna Beach City Council meeting takes the (very naughty) cake.
Laguna Beach officials are investigating how a person accessing a Zoom video-conference City Council meeting was able to hack a live sex act into the meeting. The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. during the Tuesday, March 31, meeting just as City Manager John Pietig began detailing coronavirus-related closures at beaches, parks and trailheads planned for the month of April. The meeting was the city's first virtual meeting since the coronavirus quarantine was issued and City Hall was closed to the public. — The Mercury News
The pornography show was evidently the result of so-called Zoom Bombing, which is a form of online hacking/trolling. It has always existed but has been increasing during the pandemic, as more businesses and organizations turn to video conferencing.
Mayor Bob Whalen addressed the issue immediately.
"My apologies to anyone who had to witness that visual pornography that someone saw fit to put into our meeting," said Whalen. "It won't happen again. My sincere apologies."
