Lake Forest will welcome a new Director of Management Services at the end of the month. The city has announced the appointment of Brett Channing, effective May 30. He will oversee human resources, information technology and other public information functions for the city.
City Manager Debra Rose, who just joined Lake Forest herself, called Channing a uniquely experienced professional. He was one of 50 applicants for the job.
Channing is well-versed in information technology and public information systems, as well as budgets, economic development, human resources, and legislative affairs. He most recently served as Assistant to the City Manager and Deputy Director of Administrative Services in El Cajon. He previously worked for the cities of Yorba Linda and Brea.
Channing holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from University of Southern California. He is an Executive Committee member of the League of California Cities City Manager’s Department and a member of the Board of Directors for the Institute for Local Government. He’s also the former president of the Municipal Management Association of Southern California and a former committee chair for International City-County Management Association.
