It could be days or weeks before we have the results in some of Los Angeles’ most consequential races, including the contest for mayor.
“We no longer have election night. We have election season,” Mindy Romero, a political sociologist and director of the USC Center for Inclusive Democracy, told the Los Angeles Times.
Vote-by-mail expansion has drawn out what was already a lengthy process. Mail-in ballots take longer to process and ballots postmarked by election day will be counted for up to seven days.
The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder initially said it would provide the next update on Friday, November 11 and again on Tuesday, November 15. However, the LACRR has moved its next update up to today at 4:30-5 pm. Final results in Los Angeles County are scheduled to be certified on December 5.
