Cheers!
The list’s criteria is actually pretty blunt, measuring bars and pubs, wineries, and liquor stores per capita, but also divorce rates and geolocated drunk tweets with certain hashtags.
Strangely, they make no mention of breweries per capita, something that surely could have influenced the list, as California has become a craft beer juggernaut in recent years.
Cities from all over the state made the list, but they did cluster around the major metro areas of the state.
When it is all tallied up, Santa Monica rises to the foamy top of this list, as the city leads the state in bars per capita and sports a top-10 divorce rate as well as liquor stores per capita.
Not far behind, the wine Mecca that is the City of Napa comes in 3rd.
The full list looks like this:
- Santa Monica
- Santa Barbara
- Napa
- Pasadena
- Sacramento
- Newport Beach
- Oakland
- Livermore
- San Mateo
- El Cajon
