The Livermore City Council has tapped an Orange County administrator to serve as its next city manager.

Marianna Marysheva, who currently serves as assistant city manager in Irvine, was approved on April 25. Her start date is May 16, although retiring City Manager Marc Roberts will remain on board through July 3 to ensure a smooth transition.

“This was a carefully considered recruitment process,” said Mayor Bob Woerner. “We were fortunate to have many good candidates to choose from but were especially impressed with Marianna's outstanding credentials and extensive municipal experience in communities both larger and smaller than ours. We have many important initiatives underway in Livermore and with Marianna's expertise and unique set of qualifications, we will seamlessly continue to make progress. We are very excited about this decision, believe Marianna is the right person for this job, and look forward to working with her to best serve the Livermore community."

The employment contract stipulates a salary of $305,000 per year, reports the Pleasanton Weekly.

Marysheva has worked in city government for more than two decades. She served as Oakland’s budget director from 2001 to 2005 and became Oakland’s assistant city administrator in 2008. She served as the town manager of Mammoth Lakes from 2011 to 2013 when she entered the private sector as a consultant. She went on to serve as Riverside’s assistant city manager before taking the same job in Irvine. From 2020 to 2021, she was Irvine’s interim city manager.

Marysheva holds a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from San Francisco State University and a Master of Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy.

"I am both honored and excited to be selected as Livermore's next City Manager," said Marysheva. "Livermore is truly a remarkable community, forward-thinking and strategically focused, with an exceptional quality of life made possible by close collaborations across organizational lines. I look forward to working with the Mayor and City Council, the leadership team and City staff, our residential and business community, and our many partners to continue building on Livermore's strong foundation of success. My 12-year-old children and I are excited to move to Livermore very soon, and to be personally engaged in the community."
