The City of Long Beach has looked to the Prairie State for its next deputy city manager. Long Beach officials announced the hiring of Champaign, Illinois neighborhood services director Kevin J. Jackson Wednesday.
“Kevin has a proven history of providing exemplary leadership during his 21-year public service career,” said City Manager Patrick West of his new right-hand man. “His strong community development, organizational management, and service innovation skills will be a great addition to our Senior Management Team and help us make Long Beach an even better city.”
The city’s former deputy city manager Arturo Sanchez departed in January for the City of Sacramento. Anitra Dempsey has occupied the role on an interim basis since.
Before joining the neighborhood services team in Champaign, Jackson worked for several municipalities in Arizona and elsewhere. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology, as well as a a master’s degree in public administration, from Arizona State University.
