Manteca Councilman Shoots Stepson, Police Say

Manteca police say a local city councilman shot his adult stepson last Thursday after the stepson allegedly attacked him inside his home.

The councilman is David Breitenbucher, who has represented District 3 for the past six years. 

Breitenbucher phoned 911 at 12:28 p.m. to report the shooting. According to police, Breitenbucher suffered a head injury during the altercation. His stepson, 31-year-old Landon White, was shot in the abdomen.

White and Breitenbucher were both taken to a hospital. Breitenbucher has been discharged, while White remains in critical condition.

The incident is under investigation by the Manteca Police Department. Breitenbucher is claiming self-defense.
