The McFarland City Council has placed its city manager on paid leave for a period of 30 days as law enforcement continues to investigate his whereabouts.
John Wooner was last seen at a Bakersfield cemetery on Tuesday, May 14 at around 5:30 pm. He was driving his city vehicle, a Silver Dodge Durango with CA license plate #1390353. Police have released no new clues about Wooner’s disappearance since the story first broke two weeks ago.
At the meeting Thursday, the city’s mayor and council members expressed their heartfelt sympathies for the family, as it continues its search for answers. However, “this is an important business decision for the City so that the City Council and our City employees may continue the business of the City in an orderly manner," Mayor Cantu said.
Police have described Wooner’s disappearance as “suspicious.”
