A member of the Los Angeles City Council Redistricting Commission resigned Tuesday amid ongoing fallout over a private Facebook group that has elicited outrage.
Cecilia Cabello, a former aide to Mayor Eric Garcetti, stepped down from the unpaid position Tuesday. Days earlier, Garcetti’s Chief of Staff Ana Guerrero was also placed on unpaid leave.
Both Cabello and Guerrero were members of a defunct private Facebook group where members disparaged public officials and labor leaders like 91-year-old United Farm Workers co-founder Delores Huerta. “I hate her,” Guerrero wrote in one of the posts.
“I set the tone, and everyone who works with or around me knows that my expectation is that we lead with respect, we lead with love,” Garcetti said.
The Facebook group controversy comes on top of a sexual harassment scandal centering around another former top advisor to the mayor.
