The Merced City Council voted unanimously Monday to hire San Jose’s senior deputy city attorney, Randolph Hom, as its chief legal counsel.
In addition to his work for San Jose, Hom’s resume includes service at the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in Oakland, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, the City of Hayward, and the State Bar of California. He holds B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law.
“I look forward to this great opportunity to serve the city of Merced,” Hom said.
Under the terms of his five-year contract, Hom will receive $180,000 per year plus $10,000 in moving expenses and other benefits. Merced’s last city attorney, Greg Diaz, was earning an annual salary of $174,462 before departing last year. Diaz now works as city attorney in Ventura. Cristina Talley of Best, Best & Krieger LLP has been serving as interim city attorney since September.
