Moreno Valley City Manager Mike Lee has retired, effective Dec. 27. Lee had worked in local government for over 25 years and had served as Moreno Valley’s chief executive since 2019. Before that, he was Economic Development Director.
Under Lee’s leadership, the city welcomed many new businesses and completed a number of improvement projects, including the Pavement Rehabilitation Program. His tenure saw the construction of the Civic Center Amphitheater, Community Demonstration Garden, the Moreno Beach Drive Bridge project, and the Moreno Valley Public Library’s Iris Branch.
“The City of Moreno Valley will deeply miss Mike Lee’s leadership, but we wish him the very best in this well-deserved retirement,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera.
Mayor Pro Tem Cheylynda Barnard praised Lee for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and for spearheading economic development in the city.
“He leaves behind an incredible legacy: one that will be difficult to match, and thanks to his long-term strategic planning, he leaves the City poised for even bigger successes in the near - and distant - future,” said Barnard.
