Resistance comes in the form of eight separate groups filing suit.
The 2,600-acre World Logistics Center would be home to roughly 40.6 million sq. ft. of warehouse space. However, those filing suit are claiming that the environmental impact report did not account for the surrounding communities’ public health concerns.
The litigants feel that the concern has enough merit that the city should not have approved the project.
Litigants include Riverside County, the regional air quality regulatory board, environmental advocacy groups, Laborers International Union of North America, and some transportation officials.
Yana Garcia, a lawyer with public interest law firm Earthjustice, detailed the advocacy groups’ position saying, “Our position and our clients’ position is not anti-growth, anti-jobs or anti-industry, what we’re asking for is responsible growth.”
The matter will go before Riverside Superior Court with the lawsuits asking for the city approval to be invalidated.
Moreno Valley City Council approved the project back in August with a narrow 3-2 vote.
