Morro Bay has tapped an experienced municipal leader from out of state to serve as its next city manager. John Craig will assume the position on January 13.
Craig has worked in local government for over 25 years, most recently as Deputy County Manager for Los Alamos County, New Mexico. His previous roles include City Manager of Barre, Vermont; County Manager of Talbot County, Maryland; Deputy City Manager of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Assistant County Administrator of Mono County, California; and Director of General Services for the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He holds a Master of Public Policy and Administration from Columbia University.
“With John’s extensive experience and commitment to community engagement, I am confident that he will lead our city with integrity and vision,” said Mayor Carla Wixom. “Together, we will work to enhance the quality of life for our residents and honor the unique spirit of Morro Bay.”
Craig will take the reins from Andrea Lueker, who has been serving in the interim since Yvonne Kimball’s departure in July. The City Council voted 3-2 to terminate Kimball’s contract in June, but did not disclose a reason.
Morro Bay is a coastal city of around 10,600 people located in San Luis Obispo County. It was incorporated in 1964.
