Ten California metros have been ranked among the most dangerous for pedestrians in 2022. The rankings were published in Smart Growth America’s “Dangerous By Design 2022,” a 53-page report on pedestrian safety. The researchers conducted analyses of traffic safety data for 101 U.S. metropolitan areas.
According to the report, these are the most dangerous metros for pedestrians in California:
- Bakersfield (No. 7)
- Stockton (No. 9)
- Fresno (No. 10)
- Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario (No. 14)
- Sacramento-Roseville-Folsom (No. 27)
- San Diego-Chula Vista-Carslabd (No. 31)
- Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim (No. 32)
- San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara (No. 49)
- San Francisco-Oakland-Berkeley (No. 56)
- Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura (No. 85)
Overall, California ranked as the ninth deadliest U.S. state for pedestrians with 4,729 pedestrian deaths per 100,000 people. Deltona, Florida was ranked the deadliest city in the nation. Among states, New Mexico was #1.
