Residents of a small city in Tuolumne County are looking for the source of an eerie, boom-like noise that has been occurring everyday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The mysterious sound has generated plenty of theories, both logical and loopy, but no definitive answers so far.
One resident thinks the sound could be coming from Area 51.
Queue Twilight Zone theme song.
Another believes that the town is hearing munition explosions at an Army depot in Hawthorne, Nevada.
That theory makes a little more sense. But Ken Thomas, a contracting officer with the depot, is still skeptical.
"It doesn't feel right that what we're doing here would be heard 200 miles away when there's a mountain range in between us," he told ABC. "My office is 27 miles from where they detonate the old munitions, I only hear it here maybe one time a month, and just barely and it's like 'Was that a boom?'"
We still like the alien theory best.
Sonora isn’t the first town to report strange noises. In fact, unexplained audio is a relatively common worldwide phenomenon. San Diego has had similar reports in the past. And Alhambra is experiencing something similar right now.
