In a more groan-worthy case of calling it quits, or take-backsies related to calling it quits, Charlene Storey of Roselle Park, New Jersey is our subject.
She vowed to step down if the city council voted to call the holiday tree a, *GASP*, a Christmas tree. “I cannot in good conscience continue to be part of a council that is exclusionary or to work with a mayor who is such,” she wrote in her resignation letter.
The body voted 4-to-2 Thursday to change the name of the town’s ceremony from “Annual Holiday Tree Lighting” to “Annual Christmas Tree Lighting.”
Storey met with Mayor Carl Hokanson over the weekend and decided to stay on, but in true Grinch form, will not be attending the tree lighting ceremony!
If the Mayoral thing doesn’t work out for Hokanson, he can also fall back on his ‘spade-calling’ skills, as he said he had no intentions of being exclusionary, but that “a Christmas tree is a Christmas tree.”
