Guess who is number one…
San Francisco, City by the Bay, renter’s nightmare. And we do not mean dreaming about being late for work when it is actually Saturday, but more like the scene in Terminator 2 when the bombs drop.
Hyperbole and jokes aside, here is the list detailing the top 10 median rents across the county.
San Diego is technically #11, with a median one-bedroom rent of $1,480 a month. That is a full $220 less than renting in #10 Seattle, WA though.
Los Angeles is the next California city on the list, #7 overall, maybe a shock to some, but we are dealing with median versus mean here. Median rent in LA for March 2016 is placed at $1,900.
Then we go north, San Jose and Oakland tie for #4 at $2,250 a month. Is this because of just how short supplied housing is in the #1 most expensive to rent city?
Boston came in at #3 with $2,290, but here is the number that will have home hunters begging for mercy, or searching for other cities. #2 is New York City, at $3,280 a month for a one-bedroom pad. $10 short of being a full $1,000 more expensive than Boston.
And at #1, a total surprise to nobody, San Francisco. What’s the damage this month? $3,590 for one bedroom. Hope it is worth it.
Honorable mentions to Long Beach #17, Sacramento #23, and Fresno #33.
