A new report from the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity and the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation shows the extent to which recent federal immigration activities have impacted the county.
The report identifies the L.A. communities most impacted by immigration raids. Overall, the hardest-hit neighborhoods are those already facing significant economic challenges.
These are the 10 most impacted zip codes, according to the report:
- 91403: Mission Hills-Panorama City-North Hills
- 90201: Bell
- 90660: Pico Rivera
- 90011: Southeast L.A.
- 90026: Silver Lake-Echo Park-Elysian Valley
- 90255: Huntington Park
- 90057: Westlake
- 90280: South Gate
- 90023: Boyle Heights
- 90270: Maywood
In a survey of 217 local businesses, owners said immigration enforcement activity has reduced sales and foot traffic, compounding financial strain in these communities.
“Of those businesses that were impacted by reduced daily sales or revenue, about 44 percent indicated that at least half of their revenue has been affected,” according to the report.
A resulting “climate of fear” has also impacted LA Metro bus ridership and even international flights, the researchers found.
