Sizing up the crime rates in Northern California? You might want to check out this latest analysis from Lilozada.com, a new interactive website that maps out crime in California according to the latest statistics. A Bay Area law firm recently partnered with BenchMark to develop a list of Northern California’s 12 most dangerous cities using FBI data and an analysis of violent crimes throughout the state.
Oakland took the No. 1 spot, followed by Stockton and Modesto. Merced and Vallejo rounded out the top five on Lilozada’s list. Santa Cruz came in at No. 6, followed by San Francisco; San Pablo; Sacramento; Madera; Antioch; and Salinas.
“Oakland has a reputation for being a dangerous, crime ridden city, and after looking at the data, we feel it's well deserved,” the website says. They only included cities with a minimum of 30,000 residents in their rankings, which were determined by dividing the total population by the number of violent crimes.
In addition to the NorCal crime rankings, the site offers easy-to-read crime stats on 460 California cities with compelling graphics. The data is broken down into categories like violent crime, rape, murder, and auto theft.
Editor's note: Data is compiled and reported by Li & Lozada Law Group, LLC. Report does not reflect statistics on all 482 California cities.
