Orange County prosecutors have refused to file charges against a local political consultant accused of threatening a Murrieta City Council candidate last year.
Jeffrey Leroy Benson, 29, of Fullerton was arrested by Murrieta police Oct. 7 on suspicion of making criminal threats and a harassing telephone call to Jonathan Ingram, who went on to win a council seat in November, the Ornage County Register reports
Benson had been hired by a local lawyer, Matthew Pappas, a lawyer, to conduct some research into Ingram’s business background. Pappas said he has taken an interest in city politics because he represents a Murrieta medical marijuana collective.
