“There is no sincerer love than the love of food,” the author George Bernard Shaw once wrote. Food brings us together in times of joy and in times of mourning. It comforts and it replenishes. Where this love of food remains most sincere largely depends on where you go, however. And, according to a new study, there is arguably no greater destination for food lovers than California.
The marketing services and analytics provider, Infogroup, recently released its list of the top 10 ‘foodie’ cities in America and three Northern California towns have made the cut. To determine the rankings, the researchers looked at six factors including the number of high-end organic grocers in each city, residents’ propensity for fine dining, and whether they enjoy cooking at home.
San Francisco came in at #1, with Santa Cruz and Bridgeport, Connecticut tied for #2. Ocean City, New Jersey took the #5 spot, followed by Boulder, Colorado; Santa Fe, New Mexico; Trenton, New Jersey; New York, City; and Santa Rosa, California.
"We are continually interested in identifying and analyzing the most valuable business and consumer trends, which led us to the question, 'Where do foodies live?'" said Infogroup chairman and CEO Mike Iaccarino. "Our hope is that not only will people consider this information as they're deciding where to live, but also that restaurant and businesses owners will consider this information as a trusted source when planning their next opening."
