Morro Bay Police Chief Gregory Allen will step down next month, about fourteen months after he was first appointed to the job. City Manager Scott Collins said Morro Bay had “reached a mutual agreement of separation” with Allen, effective Aug. 17.
Collins says the separation was not prompted by any particular incident. Allen was accused of assaulting a citizen journalist photographer last year but an independent investigation cleared him of wrongdoing.
“I greatly appreciate all Chief Allen has done for the Morro Bay community and the Police Department,” said Collins in a press release. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Morro Bay Police Commander Jody Cox will serve as Acting Police Chief until a permanent replacement is chosen.
