In a significant step toward trasparency in California, two open data bills have passed unanimously off their respective floors this morning.
Senate Bill 272, authored by Senator Bob Hertzberg, is an open data bill designed to create catalogues of information maintained by local governments in California and make the information available to the public under the California Public Records Act. For more on SB-272, click here.
Assembly Bill 169, introduced by Assemblyman Brian Maienschein, encourages wider transparency by modernizing disclosure practices across all local governments, allowing for an "open data concept for local government agencies...and establish(ing) key standards on how to do so."
