Oxnard Treasurer Danielle Navas has submitted her resignation just a few months shy of her term’s end. Navas’ retirement is effective Sept. 10 and concludes nearly two decades of work with the Ventura County community, including ten years as assistant city treasurer.
Navas did not give a reason for her departure, but the decision comes amid intense scrutiny of her office, which was recently accused of several failings in a scathing independent audit.
"I strongly recommend the appointment of Eden Alomeri, assistant city treasurer, as interim city treasurer until after the new treasurer takes office" is all Navas would say in her two-sentence resignation letter.
The council has 60 days to take action; City Attorney Stephen Fischer said he will present options to the Council when the members return from summer recess in September.
