Pasadena has a new permanent director for its Planning and Community Development Department. Newly-appointed City Manager Steve Mermell has named David Reyes to the position, effective July 25.
Reyes has served as the department’s interim head for the past six months. He joined the City of Pasadena in 2012 and became Deputy Director of Planning and Community Development in 2014. Before Pasadena, Reyes held a variety of planning positions in the cities of Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Malibu. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies and Planning from California State University, Northridge and boasts more than 20 years of experience in the field.
“I am honored to have been selected to lead Pasadena’s Planning and Community Development Department at a time of great challenges for the City in terms of future growth, land-use issues, and the overall financial and economic health of the City,” Reyes said. “I look forward to serving Pasadena’s residents and businesses and continuing the tradition of outstanding community service."
Reyes will manage a department of around 80 people with a mission of protecting and enhancing safe, livable neighborhoods. The maximum salary for his position is $18,333.47 per month.
