Bee and wasp attacks are bee-coming a big problem in parts of L.A. County. On advice of city staff, Pasadena leaders signed a three-year contract Monday with a bee removal company that will assist in the event of bee or wasp attacks.
The contract with Beecasso Live Bee Removal, Inc. was approved two years after tens of thousands of Africanized bees stung a police officer and two firefighters in Pasadena. The Council’s actions coincided with another bee swarm in Encino Monday, in which an LAPD volunteer was surrounded and stung, causing him to fall onto asphalt and get injured. He’s still in the hospital and his family is asking for donations to help cover medical expenses.
Beecasso will be on call to assist Pasadena police or firefighters in the event of similar swarms. Experts will humanely remove the insects and re-locate them, rather than killing them.
And that’s the buzz in Pasadena.
