An eight month search for Pasadena’s next Finance Department Director has come to a close with the appointment of Rosemead Assistant City Manager Matthew Hawkesworth. Pasadena City Manager Michael Beck announced the selection Wednesday, saying Hawkesworth’s strong background in both management and finance would help restore confidence in the city’s financial operations.
Hawkesworth is replacing former Finance Director Andrew Green who was let go earlier this year following a massive embezzlement scheme by a former employee. In the wake of the scandal and management’s failure to discover the ruse, Beck called for a change in the department’s leadership.
Hawkesworth has served as assistant city manager in Rosemead since 2007 and previously held the finance director position in Claremont. He is expected to take over on Oct. 5, pending finalization of his contract. He will earn a maximum of $199,799.
