Authorities from the Anaheim Police and Orange County Sheriff’s Departments are investigating a pipe bomb explosion that occurred Easter Sunday in a residential Anaheim neighborhood not far from the Disneyland theme park.
The blast occurred just before 2 p.m. in an alley near North Anaheim Blvd. and Wilhelmina St. Residents reported hearing and feeling a loud bang that shook homes and damaged at least one nearby structure. Several homes were briefly evacuated, but people were allowed to return by around 3 p.m.
“I thought something actually fell from the sky, from like an airplane, because it was so loud,” one neighbor recalled. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the explosion.
“It’s serious – especially on Easter Sunday with people gathering,” said Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt. “It’s very fortunate that there wasn’t someone in the alley that was injured.”
