Tragedy struck Thursday morning in a military housing community in Murphy Canyon, San Diego. Authorities say a Cessna 550 hit a power line around 3:45 a.m. before crashing into a house below. Fifteen homes and multiple vehicles were set on fire.
There were six people onboard the plane, including a former drummer for The Devil Wears Prada, Daniel Williams. All of them are believed to be deceased.
Miraculously, authorities say no one except the plane’s passengers were killed. The city’s fire chief credited residents who helped their neighbors escape before first responders arrived.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board. There was heavy fog at the time of the accident, and the pilot acknowledged the poor weather conditions before trying to land.
“My heart is with the families of those aboard the plane,” Mayor Todd Gloria wrote on X. “To the residents whose lives have been upended, your city Is here for you.”
