The Paso Robles City Council has appointed Police Chief Ty Lewis as city manager. He will replace Tom Frutchey who retired in April.

“It’s not that I don’t enjoy my job, I love being police chief, but I think that this is a unique opportunity for me and so it will be an opportunity to challenge myself, to work for the community that I’ve grown up in and as I’ve said, kind of take things from a new perspective,” Lewis said, as quoted by KSBY.
Lewis has been with the Paso Robles Police Department for two decades, including the past three as chief of police.

“We spoke to a number of quality individuals and at the end of the day, we decided that Ty best fit the organization’s needs,” Mayor Steve Martin said in a statement. “He has shown his leadership and communication skills, his knowledge of the unique challenges and attributes of Paso Robles, he analyzes information to make decisions and most importantly, he has a strong desire to serve Paso Robles to the best of his ability.”

Lewis holds a bachelor of science in business management from the University of Phoenix and a master of science in administration from Cal State Bakersfield. As the city’s chief executive, he’ll earn a salary of $221,000 per year.

Commander Steve Lampe will serve as the interim police chief until a permanent selection is made.
