San Marino Mayor Dennis Kneier really stepped in it last week after surveillance video caught him dumping a bag of dog feces on the walkway of a political opponent’s home. Now, residents of the pristine town are asking him to resign.
Police have already cited Kneier for the incident, which could carry a fine of $250 to $1,000. The mayor has also formally apologized, admitting that he should have properly disposed of the waste. Nevertheless, a group of some 50 residents descended on council chambers Wednesday, with most of them expressing their desire to see the mayor go.
“This incident seems by a rather large group of us residents to be only the latest in a series of questionable behaviors, actions and judgements that you have made about issues affecting San Marino,” said resident Rich Haserot. “We’re deeply concerned about the direction you seem to be trying to take the city.”
Kneier apologized again Wednesday, calling the incident regrettable and embarrassing. The council did not take action since the matter was not on the agenda.
