The City of Poway has approved a three-year contract naming Assistant City Manager Tina White to the city manager position. White will replace Dan Singer who resigned in June after the city declined to renew his contract.
White has worked for the city for the past 15 years. In her newest capacity, she will earn an annual salary of $236,000 per year, the San Diego Tribune reports.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled that Tina White has agreed to become our city manager,” Mayor Steve Vaus said. “There is no one more respected or more qualified.”
Not everyone was happy about the decision, however. While all members spoke highly of White, council candidate Jon Ryan called her promotion “the worst kind of cronyism.” The council should have conducted a national search for Singer’s replacement, he said.
Ryan's remarks were booed by some in the attendance at the meeting.
