Republican Congressman Tom McClintock had to be escorted to his car by police after a Town hall event in Roseville, California turned clamorous Saturday.
Hundreds of protestors showed up to express their anger with the new presidential administration and a range of controversial policies. They carried signs that read “Resist,” “No Muslim Ban, No War in Iran,” and “Protect Social Security.” Some of them shouted, “Shame on you!” as the lawmaker walked to his car.
McClintock tried to allay the crowd, telling them he sympathized with their frustration. But the jeers only grew fiercer. Protestors wanted to make sure McClintock knew they would be unforgiving if he went along with the many plans proposed by Trump.
Saturday’s protest was one of numerous demonstrations taking place across the state in recent weeks. It was promoted by a progressive group called Town Hall Project, which updates its members on Congressional forums nationwide and encourages them to show up and make their voices heard.
McClintock is a popular figure in the 4th congressional district. He recently won re-election to the House of Representatives by 63 percent of the vote. He is a former member of both the California State Assembly and State Senate. In 2003, he competed unsuccessfully against Arnold Schwarzenegger and Cruz Bustamante in the California recall election for governor.
