Fortuna has a new city manager for the time being. Former Arcata city manager Randy Mendosa was tapped by the city council for the interim position in September and started his new job last week. Mendosa is filling the vacancy left by Regan Candelario, who now serves as city manager in Novato, until the city can find a permanent replacement.
There are already some candidates the council is considering, but Mendosa isn’t one of them.
“I’m not running for the full-time city manager position,” he said.
Mendosa is offering a steady hand until the permanent replacement is chosen, with Mayor Sue Long describing him as “calm and grounded and very knowledgable about the area.” He is expected to stay on no more than 6 months.
