The Redding City Council announced Tuesday that it had appointed Assistant City Manager Steve Bade to the Interim City Manager position, effective October 3. Bade will take over for retiring City Manager Barry Tippin while the city searches for a permanent administrator.
Tuesday’s meeting was contentious at times, reflecting recent financial misconduct allegations in the Shasta County city. In July, following a thorough review of past budgets, City Councilmember Tenessa Audette alleged mismanagement of funds. At Tuesday’s meeting, the council discussed how it would handle the release of Finance Director Greg Robinett’s official response to those claims.
There were other controversial items on the agenda.
“A more contentious topic,” CBS News reports, “was the proposed lease amendment and grant funding for Advance Redding who operate the civic auditorium. The agreement waives rent until January, and provides just over $675,000 fund to cover operating costs, which is the full fund set aside for capital improvements for the site.”
One resident slammed the council for funneling money to “a crony non-profit” instead of using the funds for public safety.
