Redwood City Senior Assistant Attorney Veronica Ramirez was hired Monday as city attorney—a job she will formally assume on Sept. 6. Ramirez is replacing former top counsel Pamela Thompson, who retired in March after several years on the job.
Ramirez has practiced municipal law for the past 12 years and has been with Redwood City since 2011. She previously worked for a number of firms in Northern California. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UC Berkeley and a J.D. from UC Davis.
"The City Council is very pleased that Veronica will be stepping up into this new role and leading our City Attorney's office," said Mayor John D. Seybert in a press release. "She has proven herself to be an invaluable advisor on a variety of complex, high-profile projects in the areas of land use and real estate, and has been an effective chief legal advisor to the City's Planning Commission. After a competitive process and interviewing finalists from around the state, the City Council unanimously picked Veronica as the best candidate, for her extraordinary skill, local municipal experience and collaborative attitude."
