Sure it is easy to point to scandal and say that government is full of crooks that deserve to be shown the door. But also remember, California alone has 482 cities and 58 counties, which means thousands of elected offices, the vast majority of which do their job and are not mired in scandal.
In a Capitol Public Radio segment that aired this week, CityNews publisher Mike Madrid talked about how local government not only works for their residents, but forms larger legislative trends at the same time.
The radio segment also included a variety of issues that people solved by getting in touch with their local officeholders. The piece laments the lack of interest in local races compared to the national level stuff.
Issues both old and new have come into vogue via the local circuits, like smoking laws and the 2014 plastic bag ban. Firearm and marijuana laws are two more issues that seem to have started at the local level before getting healthy consideration in Sacramento.
