The City of Orange has hired longtime public administrator Rob Houston as its next city manager. The council unanimously approved Houston’s three-year contract on March 8. His official start date was March 14.
“The City Council selected Rob based on his solid track record of success and his ability to bring a fresh perspective to the City organization,” the city stated in a news release. “As City Manager, Rob will also embrace the traditions and historic legacy that is the hallmark of the Orange community.”
Houston’s public service career spans 25 years and includes positions in federal, state, and local government. He most recently served as city manager of Fountain Valley. He was appointed to that role in 2017. Previously, he served as Deputy City Manager of Newport Beach.
Houston takes over from Interim City Manager Tom Hatch, who was appointed in October 2021 after the retirement of Rick Otto.
