The Sacramento City Council appointed Leyne Milstein to serve as interim city manager on Tuesday. Milstein, who is one of the city’s four assistant city managers, will hold the interim position for about six to eight months while officials search for a permanent chief executive.
Sacramento’s last city manager, Howard Chan, stepped down on Dec. 31 after the council declined to renew his contract. He had held the position since 2016.
Mai Vang was the only council member to oppose Milstein’s appointment. Vang preferred to have the city’s four assistant city managers oversee the city’s operations. Councilmember Roger Dickinson abstained from the vote.
Milstein has worked for the city since 2005.
